Staying hydrated, on and off the pitch

Forest Green Rovers, recognised by FIFA as the “world’s greenest football club”, has taken hydration to the heart of its sustainability strategy by installing environmentally-friendly drinking water solutions from Culligan.

Sustainability is central to everything that Forest Green Rovers does, from solar panels and electric vehicle charging points to their vegan matchday food.

We installed a number of high capacity, plumbed in refill water dispensers in high footfall areas in the stadium for use on match days by the fans and players.

With sustainability at the core of FGR, choosing to partner with Culligan was an easy decision and aligned with our goals to reduce our carbon footprint through their innovative, sustainable water solutions. Culligan have provided us with a complete solution from outdoor bottle filling stations to give fans convenient access to refill their water bottles, resulting in reducing single-use plastic waste. And new equipment has been installed in our main Candriam Stand, to provide hospitality guests with premium filtered chilled and sparkling water using a reusable bottle system. Thanks to their solutions we have saved thousands of plastic bottles being used and I look forward to working with them closely on the future projects, including EcoPark at J13.

Conclusion

As consumption continues to rise so do the environmental consequences of plastic pollution, from landfill into the ocean with detrimental impact on marine life and ecosystems.

Refill stations are a vital step towards a more sustainable and environmentally conscious way of drinking, and a successful way to reduce the club’s plastic footprint in reducing the amount of plastic waste generated from bottles, as well as reducing the carbon footprint from mass production and transport.
