Delivering reliable water solutions to DPD

DPD are one of Europe’s leading parcel groups and are owned by France’s La Poste; the second largest postal group in Europe.

They are the UK’s favourite parcel delivery company – providing innovative, high quality and time sensitive solutions. The DPD UK team exceeds 15,000 people, operating over 10,000 vehicles from 87 locations and delivering over 260m parcels a year.

The DPD team approached us seeking reliable drinking water solutions that would improve their environmental footprint, and be suitable for their large business based across the UK.

Objectives

DPD were looking for a way to reduce the amount of single-use plastic bottles used throughout their hubs and depots. They required a dispenser that could produce high volumes of water, time after time, to cater for all their staff based at each site.

Our drinking water solution

Our team were tasked with supplying a reliable solution to assist in reducing single-use plastic and providing DPD staff with great-tasting water. Culligan recommended the UV bottle filling station with a fully customisable wrap; this was ideal in helping the business promote their internal sustainability initiatives to staff across their locations.

Key features of our water solution:

  • Handy bottle saving counter display helps users keep track of plastic bottles saved from landfill
  • Inbuilt LED UV sterilisation system, which eliminates 99.99% of bacteria and viruses in the water
  • No hassle automatic water dispensing
  • Low maintenance; the hydration stations modular design allows for easy upgrade and repair
  • A flow rate of 4.5 litres per minute
  • For flexibility, it can be secured to either the wall or floor using pre-drilled location holes

Conclusion

Since 2020, the company has provided its people (approximately 22,000) with reusable metal bottles and has installed drinking water stations at its 87 depots, ensuring that the bottles can be easily refilled.

DPD estimates this has helped save over 1 million plastic bottles, corresponding to over 82.8 tonnes of plastic – and, based on its people filling up on average twice a day, five days a week, an estimated 3.75 million plastic bottles of water will no longer be needed.
